UPside Visa is an inexpensive and easy way for parents to improve greatly the management of money allowance for their teenage children.

Instead of cash allowances that are unsafe, offer no spending control and require trips to the ATM:

  • you register for a card online, in just a few minutes.
  • we ship a reloadable Visa ® prepaid card to your home address, in the name of your teen, which you or your teen can activate over the phone.
  • you create your online account, where you can load funds, create an allowance schedule or add another child.
  • and your teen creates his/her own online access, entirely separate from yours, to monitor his/her own spending, check the remaining card balance, and much more, from any computer or even from his/her cell phone.
The UPside Visa prepaid card is not a credit card: you can only spend the money that has been loaded beforehand into the UPside card account. There is no credit card bill to pay at the end of the month, no late fees, no risk of going into debt.

If you lose the card, you don't lose the money in the UPside card account: as long as you notify us promptly of a loss or theft, this money is 100% safe.

And with 2 different plans, it's all about which UPside plan fits your lifestyle. If you give money to you child only occasionally, then the UPside Access plan may suit your needs. Does your teen get a weekly allowance? UPside Clear is best for you. Or choose UPside Edge to get even more bang from your buck with ATM access and our best UPoint reward program.

How does it work?

As a parent or guardian, you are the legal owner of the card account and signatory of the card contract with the bank. Your teen is the designated cardholder. You can load money onto the card from your checking account or credit/debit card for all your teen's needs…lunch money, books, movies, clothes, emergencies. You can even set up weekly or monthly payments for automatic allowances.

If your teen has an after school or summer job, he or she can also ask the employer to deposit all or part of the paycheck onto the card by simply giving his or her direct deposit information, provided by UPside, to the employer.

And, as a bonus, your teen can earn points from reloads, purchases made at the UPside Mall or inviting friends to join, which he or she can redeem for cash back directly to their UPside card.

How is UPside better?

  • Safer and more convenient than cash
    • Safety of Visa's ® Zero Liability Policy. Funds are also FDIC-insured
    • No need to go to an ATM to withdraw cash for allowances
    • Parents have access to details of payment transactions and can track spending
  • Not a credit card
    • Your teen will not go into debt
    • It's a great short-term saving tool
  • A better alternative
    • Forget about hefty transfer fees charged by most banks
    • No minimum balance required
    • Funds transferred are made available instantly
  • Better than most prepaid cards
    • Convenience of an online service designed for the family
